Maconaquah School Corporation and Logansport Savings Bank Partner to Build Financial Literacy for Students
Maconaquah School Corporation has partnered with Logansport Savings Bank on a five-year financial literacy initiative designed to give students practical financial knowledge and skills they can carry with them into adulthood.
As part of the partnership, Logansport Savings Bank has pledged $11,000 over five years to support the purchase and continued sustainability of Maconaquah School's selected financial literacy curriculum. In addition to its financial commitment, bank staff and loan officers will work alongside educators to enhance students’ learning through guest presentations, real-world examples and insights from financial professionals.
With the 2026-27 school year underway, Maconaquah High School Principal David Durkes emphasized the importance of preparing students for the financial decisions they will face after graduation.
“High school is about preparing our students to be successful when they graduate,” Principal David Durkes said. “Whether they go to college, enter a career, join the military, or take another path, students need to understand budgeting, loans, interest rates, and how to make wise financial decisions. These are real-life skills that our students will use throughout their lives and are an important part of preparing them for life after high school.”
Maconaquah School Corporation is committed to encouraging and challenging its students to reach their highest potential while preparing them for success in college, careers and life beyond graduation. Financial literacy is an important component of that preparation, giving students the opportunity to develop practical skills they can apply both now and in the future.
For Logansport Savings Bank, the partnership also represents an opportunity to strengthen its commitment to Miami County and invest in the students and families who make up the community.
Chad Higgins, President & CEO of Logansport Savings Bank, said the partnership reflects the bank’s commitment to investing in the communities it serves. “As a community bank, we believe our role is to invest in the communities we serve and helping prepare the next generation for success,” Higgins said. “Financial literacy is a lifelong skill, and we’re proud to partner with Maconaquah Schools to give students the knowledge and tools they need to make informed financial decisions. Supporting students today is an investment in the future of Miami County.”
For Rex Betzner, Executive Vice President and Chief Lending Officer at Logansport Savings Bank, an alumnus of Maconaquah School Corporation and a current Maconaquah Schools board member, this partnership provides a meaningful opportunity to give back to the school and community that helped shape him. “I feel truly blessed to work for an organization like Logansport Savings Bank that understands the impact of being involved in our local community” said Betzner. “As an alum of Maconaquah and a current school board member this gift will help give our students the skills necessary to be successful after they leave the halls of Maconaquah High School.”
For Maconaquah Schools and Logansport Savings Bank, the partnership represents a shared investment in the next generation of Miami County students focusing on helping them develop the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to make sound financial decisions and pursue their goals beyond graduation.
Principal David Durkes also highlighted the value of bringing local financial professionals into the classroom. “Having Logansport Savings Bank as a partner gives our students real-world experience with personal finance from professionals who deal with these decisions every day,” Durkes said. “They can share what they have seen work for others and help students understand important finance topics that will impact them after high school.”
This five-year partnership between Maconaquah Schools and Logansport Savings Bank is an investment in Miami County students and their future. By combining classroom instruction with real-world financial expertise, the partnership aims to help Maconaquah Schools students graduate with the knowledge and confidence to make informed financial decisions and pursue their goals long after they leave the classroom.
