Logansport Savings Bank announces 2023-2024 Junior Board of Directors

Logansport Savings Bank (LSB) is pleased to announce the students participating on the Junior Board of Directors for the 2023-2024 school year. Sixteen high school students from Logansport, Lewis Cass, Pioneer and Caston High Schools will meet once per month from August to May. Eight local seniors will be returning for the second year of their term on the Junior Board, to lead and collaborate with eight local juniors who are beginning their two-year term. Staff members from Logansport Savings Bank serve as mentors to the students throughout the year.

The primary purpose of the LSB Junior Board is to expose students to a corporate board room environment and encourage an understanding of how important it is for business leaders to be involved in their community. Many of the Junior Board meetings are hosted on-site by local businesses and non-profit organizations, so that the students can see and hear firsthand about business operations and career opportunities that are here in their hometown. In addition to business tours and sessions with community leaders, the students are also paid to complete numerous community service hours throughout the year. At the end of the Junior Board’s term, the money earned from community service hours is donated to local non-profit organizations chosen by the students.

Seniors who served on last year’s 2022-2023 LSB Junior Board were part of the group that donated $1,000 to Peak Community Services and $1,000 to Emmaus Mission Center from over 100 community service hours that were completed.

“We are proud of this unique and innovative program that brings students together for hands-on learning and community service,” comments Chad Higgins, President and CEO of Logansport Savings Bank. “We look forward to meeting the junior students who are new to the board, and to reconnecting with the seniors who are returning. Even with just one year of prior experience, it’s exciting to see how these seniors provide leadership to the incoming juniors who are learning about serving on a board for the first time.”

Chad went on to say, “Logansport Savings Bank is a local, community bank with an intentional commitment to reinvesting in the communities we serve. One of the ways we do that is by working directly with these aspiring student leaders from across Cass County. When we established the Junior Board five years ago, we had only hoped it would grow to become the program that it is today. Giving these students an opportunity for board governance and leadership, combined with exposure to career pathways and community service is what sets their Junior Board experience apart from other high school experiences they may have. We are privileged to work alongside them, as they grow their own skills and prepare for their futures. We also hope that they may seriously consider coming back to Logansport and Cass County for a career or for whatever their future plans may be, after learning that many different possibilities exist right here at home.”

Members of the 2023-2024 LSB Junior Board held their first meeting on Wednesday, August 23 at Logansport Savings Bank. The students will visit the Logansport Police Department, the Logansport Fire Department, and other local businesses and non-profit organizations throughout the year. They will also attend the annual State of the City and County Luncheon in January 2024 with staff members from Logansport Savings Bank.
